In contrast to electric vehicle demands, they run on today’s transport setups, making them ideal for planes, trucks, and ships.
Examples include bioethanol and biodiesel. It is produced from plant sugars. It is produced from oils like soybean or rapeseed. Engines can use them without much modification.
Fuels like biogas and sustainable jet fuel also exist, produced using scraps and waste. They might help reduce emissions in aviation and logistics.
Still, it’s not all smooth. They cost more than fossil fuels. Better tech and more supply are needed. Fuel crops should not reduce food availability.
Even with these limits, biofuels offer real potential. They can read more be used without starting from zero. Plus, they give new life to waste materials.
Many believe they are just a bridge. However, they might be key for years to come. They can reduce emissions today, not just tomorrow.
With global decarbonization on the agenda, the value of biofuels increases. They are not meant to compete with EVs or renewables, they complement the clean energy mix. If we fund them and improve regulation, biofuels could help transform transport worldwide
